We haven't written the roadmap for this path yet. You can still choose it — we'll record the direction — but there is nothing to follow here until it lands.

What is a DevOps Engineer?

A DevOps engineer makes shipping software safe and boring. You build the pipelines that test and release code, the infrastructure it runs on, and the monitoring that tells you when something breaks. The goal is that a developer can push a change and have it reach users quickly, repeatably, and with a way back if it goes wrong. It is as much about the process as the tooling.

What do they build?

  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Infrastructure defined as code
  • Container and orchestration setups
  • Monitoring, logging and alerting
  • Automated rollback and release strategies

What will you learn?

A high-level preview of the areas this journey covers. Your detailed roadmap comes next.

  1. Linux and the command line
  2. Networking basics
  3. Git and GitHub
  4. A scripting language such as Python or Bash
  5. Containers and Docker
  6. CI/CD tooling
  7. Infrastructure as code
  8. Cloud platforms
  9. Observability and incident response

You may enjoy this if…

  • You like automating anything you do twice
  • You enjoy making other people's work easier
  • You stay calm when something is broken
  • You are interested in systems more than interfaces
  • You like tools, pipelines and infrastructure

What might be challenging

Worth knowing before you commit. Every path has these.

  • You are often on call when things fail
  • The tooling landscape is wide and changes often
  • Mistakes can affect every service at once
  • It's rarely an entry-level role without prior experience
  • Success is invisible; failure is very visible

Close enough that much of what you learn carries over.

  • Cloud Engineer

Design infrastructure that scales without falling over.
