We haven't written the roadmap for this path yet. You can still choose it — we'll record the direction — but there is nothing to follow here until it lands.

What is a Mobile App Developer?

A mobile developer builds applications for phones and tablets. The constraints are different from the web: limited screen space, unreliable connectivity, battery life, and app stores that review what you ship. You either build natively for one platform, or use a cross-platform framework to target both from one codebase — each with real trade-offs.

What do they build?

  • Consumer apps on the App Store and Play Store
  • Offline-capable applications
  • Apps using the camera, location or sensors
  • Push notification systems
  • Internal apps for field teams

What will you learn?

A high-level preview of the areas this journey covers. Your detailed roadmap comes next.

  1. Programming fundamentals
  2. A mobile language or framework
  3. Mobile UI patterns
  4. Git and GitHub
  5. Working with APIs
  6. Local storage and offline behaviour
  7. Device permissions
  8. Testing on real devices
  9. App store release process

You may enjoy this if…

  • You like building things people carry with them
  • You care about polish and smooth interaction
  • You enjoy working within tight constraints
  • You want visible results quickly
  • You are interested in device features like camera or GPS

What might be challenging

Worth knowing before you commit. Every path has these.

  • Device and OS version fragmentation
  • App store review can delay or block a release
  • Debugging on real hardware is slower
  • Native platforms mean learning two ecosystems
  • Users update slowly, so old versions linger

Close enough that much of what you learn carries over.
