We haven't written the roadmap for this path yet. You can still choose it — we'll record the direction — but there is nothing to follow here until it lands.

What is a UI/UX Designer?

A UI/UX designer works out what a product should do and how it should feel to use, then expresses that as flows, wireframes and interface designs. UX is the thinking — research, structure, and whether a flow makes sense at all. UI is the craft — layout, type, colour and interaction. It is the least code-heavy path in this catalog, but the most collaborative.

What do they build?

  • User flows and wireframes
  • High-fidelity interface designs
  • Design systems and component libraries
  • Interactive prototypes
  • Research findings and usability tests

What will you learn?

A high-level preview of the areas this journey covers. Your detailed roadmap comes next.

  1. Design fundamentals: layout, type, colour, hierarchy
  2. A design tool such as Figma
  3. User research methods
  4. Information architecture
  5. Prototyping
  6. Accessibility
  7. Design systems
  8. Basic HTML and CSS
  9. Communicating and defending decisions

You may enjoy this if…

  • You are interested in people as much as products
  • You notice when something is confusing to use
  • You enjoy visual craft and detail
  • You can take critique without taking it personally
  • You like collaborating across a team

What might be challenging

Worth knowing before you commit. Every path has these.

  • Good work still gets rejected for business reasons
  • You must justify decisions, not just present them
  • Portfolios matter more than credentials, and take time
  • Design and engineering constraints often conflict
  • Junior roles are competitive

Close enough that much of what you learn carries over.

  • Frontend Developer

Build the interfaces people interact with every day.

  • Mobile App Developer

Build apps for the device in everyone's pocket.
