What is a QA / Test Engineer?

A QA or test engineer is responsible for whether software actually does what it claims. That means designing test cases, automating the ones worth repeating, and thinking about the situations nobody planned for — the empty input, the double click, the expired session. Modern QA is heavily automated, so it is a genuine engineering role rather than manual clicking.
